ALAS is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and promoting the well-being of Hispanics and other underserved populations in the Central River Savannah Area (CSRA). Although our founding purpose was to advocate for and provide free medical and interpreting services for the Hispanic community, we have grown to serve a much wider patient base. Currently ALAS provides patronage to free clinics housed at 904 Merry Street, Augusta, GA 30904: Clínica Latina (adult patients), Pediatric Clinic, Women’s Health, Dermatology, Orthopedics, Opthalmology, and Mental Health. In addition, we run the Empowered Health Clinic for our African-American population and eHalo clinic to service those with substance abuse related issues. We have also recently started up a separate Women's Health Clinic within Clínica Latina. These clinics are entirely student-run and have been supported thus far by the Augusta University Medical Health Center through the provision of labs. Students and staff from multiple disciplines in health including medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant, and nursing come together to provide the best care possible to our patients. The provision of primary care services to those who cannot afford it keeps patients out of the emergency room and potentially saves the local healthcare system thousands of dollars every year.
